Housebound

Our Quick Reviews bring you great movie recommendations without the spoilers.

Genre:  Comedy/Horror

Plot: Kylie Bucknell is forced to return to the house she grew up in when the court places her on home detention. When she begins hearing unsettling whispers & strange bumps in the night, she begins to wonder whether she’s inherited her mother’s overactive imagination, or if the house is in fact possessed by a hostile spirit who’s less than happy about the new living arrangement.

Overview:

Housebound (2014) is a comedy-horror filmed in New Zealand and is the movie directorial debut of Gerard Johnstone.

What we liked:

  • Fast paced, original story that will keep you guessing and entertained until the end.
  • Strong, quirky characters with a kick-ass female lead.
  • A fine blend of comedy, genuine scares and suspense.

What we didn’t like:

  • There’s not a lot to dislike but storyline felt a bit muddled at times.

Conclusion:

Housebound is easily one of our favorite comedy-horrors of the year.   This film is one of the rare cases where humor doesn’t come at the expense of true “horror” scares.  Highly recommended.

Rating: 8 out of 10
