Plot: A disturbed telepathic man is able to transmit his dreams and visions into the minds of the people around him.
The Sender (1982), is a little-known horror/thriller directed by Roger Christian. Christian went on to make some really terrible films, but trust me, this one is actually good.
What we liked:
- Relies on a creepy atmosphere and suspense to captivate the viewer, rather than blood and guts.
- Despite its lack of gore, contains some of the most memorable scenes I’ve seen in a horror movie.
- One of the first (of many) 80s horror films to use the “killer dreams” concept.
What we didn’t like:
- The somewhat slow pace may be a turn-off to some.
The Sender is highly original, polished and far too good to be as obscure as it is. I’d love to see it get a Blu-ray release in the near future. Recommended.
